Thursday 9th January
With 15 members bowling on 5 lanes of 3 players and no gremlins in the machinery the year started well (although a few gremlins in human form did turn up and bowl briefly on the lane adjacent to one of ours – and there were 5 empty lanes!).
Lynne returned from her summer break with vengeance bowling the highest series of the day with 414 and Tony began 2020 where he left off last year with the strikes flowing. He was the winner of the first round with a score of 149 but then went downhill (rapidly). Tim however had his day of glory. For the whole time the group has been running Tim has got consistently better but had never reached his personal aim of bowling three games over 100 – today was the day (130,126,129); well done Tim, what will your next challenge be?
Bill seems to have cracked it reaching 101 on his final game and Jill, another newcomer, upped her scores and bowled 102 on her final game.
Having worked out the average scores for the summer season it is interesting to see that the large majority of members started the year bowling around their averages; it will be interesting to see what happens over the next months as recently there has been so much improvement.
The scores of the day were: Tony 149, Diane 147 & Lynne 140 and series winners Lynne with 414, Diane 398 & Tim 385. Tim, Jill & Diane were by far the best team beating Anne L, Chris & Tony by almost 100 points – 1048 to 951.

Thursday 24th January
Another good turnout for the bowling session with 17 eager players.
I managed to get through the last bowl here without aggravating the previous injuries that had kept me away for so long, glad to be part of it all again. On my team was Chris, Kim and Ron, a recent addition to the group but a friend I have known for many years. A brave appearance after the recent and sad loss of his lovely wife Marlene.
Ron started with a strike and was picking up his spares well, just tailing off at the end, but got his best score to date of 130 in the first game and a 331 series. I had a good start with a 146, a dip after the tea break of 127 coming back with a 141 to match exactly the 414 series I got 2 weeks ago! Gwen got her best score of 123 in the 2nd round which put a smile on her face but we never see Gwen without a smile, however she’s doing. Another happy lady was Anne Langley, who got the highest score of 141 in the 2nd game, her personal best and with all 3 games over 100 had her best series of 347. Well done Anne and Gwen. Not to be outdone, husband Tim had the best score in the 3rd round with 145.
Tony, still sore from his fall on the lane two weeks ago and wearing a yellow top to match the colour of the bruises, was sadly not on his previous good form and had to console himself with a Jammy Dodger in the tea break.
Lastly a huge thank you to Diane for all her hard work in running the bowling and her reports each fortnight during my long absence. I wish I was as efficient, that Lady should be cloned and shared around,
Lynne
