Today the bowling alley screen on lane 9 flashed ‘welcome to the 175 club’ another great achievement for one group member.
With 12 players, 6 men and 6 ladies, and using the ‘random picking system’ it worked out that we had one ladies team, one men’s team and two mixed teams – it was the ladies (Anne L, Anne W and Kim) that today proved to be the highest scoring team getting 1009, just 2 points over a mixed team (John H, Christine & Diane).
Everyone had a sluggish start with two-thirds of the players scoring under 100 in the first and second rounds. Tony, with a score of 125 was the highest round 1 scorer. Things improved slightly in the second round with Diane on 136. By now the decibels were rising, the high fives were being dealt out with every strike and spare and everyone seemed a lot more confident in their play.
After the tea break the best was yet to come – Tim, John, Chris, Anne W and Peter B improved and Diane raised her score to 152 but the star of the day was Kim. Having bowled consistently in the first two rounds with 115 & 114 she astounded everyone, including herself, with a superb third round getting strikes (a Turkey at one point) and countless spares and in doing so scored 176 (40 higher than her previous best). The bowling alley screen flashed and welcomed her to the 175 club but she missed that accolade in her joy. Furthermore she also raised her highest series score by 60 points to 405. It was an emotional occasion for her and had she not already consumed a large glass of white wine, she could have had a celebration drink!
Well done Kim.

Fresh from a 10 Pin Bowling lesson with Leeroy, Anne & Diane came with expectations of improving their games and displaying their new found skills; they were disappointed so plan to visit the bowling alley for a practice before the next session.
In spite of valiant efforts everyone’s score was low so perhaps we have all ‘peaked’ as only Tim beat his personal best reaching 147, one point higher than his previous best score. This achievement was marred by the fact that he desperately wanted to bowl all three games with a score of over 100; he all but did this but unfortunately his third game let him down – next time Tim. Lynne returned from her summer break with three reasonably consistent games and got the highest series score of 362, one above Tim’s. Another new member joined us this week so gradually our numbers are swelling but the alley has plenty of space and so our group has room for more. During the tea-break we enjoyed viewing the pictures David took a few sessions previously – great pictures and he will be putting them on to the website for us all to see.
November’s dates are the 14th & 28th; any new members please contact the group leader for full details.
