The grass verges and fields had recently been mowed so many wildflowers had gone with the cuttings. It was a beautiful day but with little bird activity and at one point we commented that even the wood pigeons were absent.
The highlight of the outing was of a sparrowhawk hunting close to the seawall, firstly landing on the footpath then returning to its perch to swoop again into longer grass and then back to its perch once more. It was pleasing to see so many butterflies including a speckled wood and also finding an edible bay bolete fungus (but not this one as it was past its best).
