Twiggy & Luncheon 2 Group
Before hearing what the Twiggy Group did I wondered if it could be a gardening group or perhaps a slimming group: it turned out to be the latter but actually no longer functions – it seems it had served it’s purpose.
The group started when one member wanted to lose weight and she found that others did also, so the group began with that aim in mind. After an initial weigh-in each member was weighed at their weekly meeting and for every pound gained a 10p fine incurred and for every pound lost 10p was awarded (I’m not sure how this worked out financially because if everyone lost weight then there would be a deficit, so perhaps there was a float).
It was not run along the lines of nationwide slimming groups, which provide slimming menus as well as suggesting possible sins, treats or other incentives, but the members did exchange recipes and ideas. Importantly the meetings kept them focused on their losing weight and maintaining it when their goal was reached.
It is possible some of you may have over indulged during the Christmas and New Year period and put on pounds that you know you won’t be able to shift without an incentive so why not revitalise the group and at least have some fun doing so with others.
The second group is perhaps vaguely contrary in aims to the first and is the Luncheon 2 Group, otherwise known as Home Birds, which has no fixed group leader and is run by the Home Bird members as a whole. Unlike the other luncheon group this one visits only the local establishments and therefore no travelling is necessary. As we all know there is a wide and varied range of places to eat in Burnham with an equally wide range of prices and it would take several years for the monthly outings to get round to trying them all. Recent venues have included The Cabin Dairy, Swallowtail and the White Hart. Six to eight members regularly meet and those present decide where to go the following month. I was told that new members would be welcome and you don’t need anything except a hearty appetite and a desire to have an enjoyable few hours amongst friends.
Just a thought you could join both groups and have delicious food with the Home Birds and maintain your weight by going to Twiggy Group.
Happy New Year
