We had a very interesting Science group meeting this month. It dealt with the very topical but provocative subject of “Energy Resources”.
Our traditional sources of energy are being depleted fast:
Will they run out before sufficient alternatives are in place?
What is best for energy needs for the future?
Are we jeopardising the needs of future generations by an irresponsible attitude to energy use and supply?
Ken Taylor gave us a presentation showing us an overview of the present position and some of the available solutions e.g. the nuclear/renewable debate.
This was followed by an interesting discussion which brought together other possible alternatives which we had read about, some quite plausible others quite wacky.
Of course, as usual there was some agreement and some divergence of opinion.
I must admit I ended the evening not being sure but hoping that someone is pursuing all the promising solutions and that answers will be found in time.
