Monthly Meetings
On the first Friday of every month members are invited to attend a monthly meeting at the Burnham Village Hall, Arcadia Road, Burnham-on-Crouch CM0 8EF. Located not far from the Railway Station there is a large car park and wheelchair access. Meetings commence at 2.30 p.m.
There is room in the hall to seat 100 people and our attendances usually average 80 members.
Members pay £1 to attend the meeting which helps to pay for the cost of the visiting speaker and includes tea and biscuits. Visitors are also able to attend a limited number of these meetings. Click here for more information.
After welcoming the members the Chairman usually introduces the Speaker. These are invariably professional speakers (although we sometimes utilise speakers from the membership) who have been booked during the previous year. To see a list of past and present speakers click here
We have a sound system which enables the use of three types of microphone simultaneously (although we try to restrict it to one at a time!): a corded microphone, a wireless microphone, and either a lapel or ear-hook (preferred) wireless microphone. Music from an iPod or CD player can also be played through this system. We also have a 7ft screen for use with a speaker’s own projection equipment.
Visiting speakers usually talk for about an hour including time for questions.
After the Chairman and Group Leaders have delivered their monthly notices the meeting adjourns for tea. During tea members can peruse the notice boards where any letters and agendas are posted, or purchase some plants, books or cards the proceeds of which go to support the Air Ambulance charity. Meetings usually finish at around 3.30 – 4.00 p.m.
We are well supported by the local press and every month Joe Abbott submits our monthly meeting report to the following publications, who very kindly usually print our copy verbatim:
